CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS: ACCELERATE PROGRESS,

ADD RESOURCES AND REPLACE OLD FIXTURES

AdobeStock_577674293.jpeg
You already know what’s needed.

Additional funding is available to accelerate and increase your ongoing efforts to support green energy and sustainability that will:

  • Reduce harmful indoor air toxins.

  • Reduce work orders and job tickets.

  • Reduce the overall cost of energy.

  • Increase teacher satisfaction with HVAC.

  • Increase dollars available for other facilities areas.

  • Increase student outcomes.

By adding available resources and accelerating your facilities improvement plan, you improve the reliability of equipment, thus improving relationships with teachers, and enabling you to repurpose funds in a longer term, more strategic way.

ADD FUEL TO YOUR PLAN

Additional resources accelerates the implementation of your plan, filling in unfunded gaps. New equipment reduces maintenance cost and improves efficiency. It allows schools to shift local HVAC replacement and maintenance funds to other areas, such as electrical, plumbing, etc.

DEMONSTRATE LEADERSHIP

By creating an enhanced pathway to structural improvements, students and staff will hear a strong message of support. Better working conditions will improve the health of teachers, staff and students, which leads to higher academic achievement.

GAIN SUPPORT

Your students and faculty will thank you for a vision of environmental sustainability and stewardship that will last. Adding resources makes your efforts more visible and timely. Your taxpayers will thank you for disciplined financial stewardship of limited and even declining resources.

It’s no longer prudent to wait or decline additional resources...

…THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW.

The California Energy Commission is now accepting applications for round five of the CalSHAPE Ventilation Assessment Program. Funds are available to conduct retro-commissioning,  purchase equipment, and deploy a formal strategy supporting safer air.

LifeWings can do that for you at no expense to the district’s general revenue fund.

LifeWings will enable you to compound resources and leverage dollars from CalSHAPE and apply for additional state and federal grants to add resources to what you are already doing.

LifeWings adds resources to your staff in the areas of:
  • Securing funding

SAMPLE GRANT AWARD

Example of an Approved Site Budget Upgrade and Repair Grant Award Calculation

*Calculation based on an example site: A school with 20 HVAC systems, 5 tons each, that will be replaced and 10 HVAC systems, 5 tons each, that will be repaired as part of the Upgrade and Repair Grant project.

Calculation Description
Calculation Example
Approved Site Budget = Approved budgets for: Direct Construction Costs Base Costs Design Contingency Funds
T$500,000 + $250,000 + $20,000 + $500,000 = $1,270,000
Design Contingency Funds
(0.50 + 0.25 + 0.05) x $500,000 = $500,000
Base Costs
$20,000
Direct Construction Costs (100 tons total for replacement and 50 tons total for repair)
$5,000 x 100 = $500,000 for replacement $5,000 x 50 = $250,000 for repair
Upgrade and Repair Grants Require Licensed Professionals

Many grants are available for additional funding to make cost-effective energy efficient repairs, upgrades or replacements.  They must be documented in an HVAC assessment report and recommended by a licensed professional. Items that require a licensed professional may include:

  • Repairs, upgrades or replacements to meet minimum ventilation and filtration rate requirements.

  • Electrical, mechanical and structural system upgrades.

  • Mechanical acceptance testing and commissioning.

  • Correct any deficiency, as noted in HVAC Assessment Report.

  • Urinals

  • Some Dishwashers

LifeWings will verify hardware status and report findings so you can obtain the dollars for replacements.
